ILO Brief

Women and the economy: 30 years after the Beijing Declaration

This ILO Brief marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action by providing a comprehensive statistical snapshot of gender equality in the world of work. It highlights that while progress has been made, it has been uneven and insufficient, with global gender employment gaps narrowing by only 4 percentage points in three decades. Women remain underrepresented in employment, overrepresented in informal work, and face persistent pay gaps.
